According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage for cleaners is only $15.35. Furthermore, many cleaning companies misclassify their employees as contractors. In doing so, workers can be paid less than the minimum wage and are denied access to benefits such as sick leave, vacation, and health insurance.

In addition, misclassified workers do not qualify for public and private programs such as unemployment, disability, workers’ compensation, and paid family & medical leave.

Finally, workers often pay for their own supplies and equipment, resulting in extremely low take-home pay.

With nearly one million people working as maids in our country, Well-Paid Maids can’t employ everyone. But, through our living-wage model, we aim to support all cleaners by showing customers, competitors, and policymakers that higher wages are good for workers and good for business.
